The October 2021 Edition of Wine Enthusiast (both print and online) has officially identified our 2019 Pinot Noir and our 2020 Pinot Gris as amongst their favorite wines. As a young vineyard, we are humbled and honored to be receiving this recognition. Our overarching goal has always been to provide you with high-quality fine wines at affordable prices that make small-batch, single vineyard fine wine consumption accessible to all. The October 2021 print edition of the magazine published an article entitled “Oregon’s White Wines Earn High Scores; Here Are the Chardonnays and Pinot Gris to Try”. The Shumaker Vineyards 2020 Pinot Gris was highlighted as one of the Oregon Pinot Gris to try with a 92 point rating and a coveted Editor’s Choice Award. Here are the official tasting notes.
Shumaker 2020 Pinot Gris (Tualatin Hills); $18, 92 points. Some free CO₂ gives this an ultrafresh mouthfeel, though it stops short of spritzy. Brilliant, ripe lemon and orange and peach and papaya fruits shine through, sappy and juicy. With fruit this ripe and delicious, it would seem to be foolish not to dive in and drink it up while young. Editors’ Choice. —P.G.

Shumaker 2019 Pinot Noir (Tualatin Hills); $28, 90 points. There’s a lightly leathery note suffusing this young Pinot, sourced from the estate vineyard in the new Tualatin Hills AVA. Wines from this location, in the northwest corner of the Willamette Valley, attain moderate ripeness at low sugar levels, given extended hang time. Elegance is the calling card, here in a wine with pretty raspberry fruit, hints of blood orange, a touch of mushroom and baking spices accenting an extended finish. —P.G
