Bud Break, 2024!

Bud break! Today is the official day of bud break at Shumaker Vineyards. After a winter of dormancy, the vines are coming back to life! This is one of the most exciting days of the year, as it signifies the official start of the 2024 vintage. Our hopes and dreams for an outstanding vintage are high. However, now that the delicate flora are exposed to the elements, a late freeze is a threat. Keep your fingers crossed that we continue to see warm weather. Remember the pruning we did in January? Well, the buds will bring forth the fruiting canes that will begin to bear fruit in a couple of months. In the meantime, they will grow like crazy, sometimes as much as 1-2 inches per DAY!
